Snowfall App privacy policy
Snowfall App is a winter-operations app from Snowfall Command Center LLC ("Snowfall", "we") for towns, plow contractors, winter partners, and Snowfall employees. It lets organizations list themselves in a directory, connect, and message each other, report road problems to Snowfall, and follow official weather alerts. This policy explains what Snowfall App collects, why, and what you can do about it. Snowfall Biz has its own privacy policy.
The short version: we collect what the app needs to run your account and your organization's conversations. We do not sell personal information, we do not show ads, we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the app does not use your location.
What we collect
- Email address: when you sign in. We email you a one-time sign-in code. That is the only email Snowfall App sends to users.
- Your name and organization details: the name you enter, your organization's name and type (town, contractor, or partner), and optional details you add: town and state, weather alert zones, a short description, services (chosen from a fixed list), fleet size, and the towns your organization covers (town and state only). A directory listing and organization profile show only the organization's name, type, town and state, zones, description, services, fleet size, towns covered, the month and year it joined Snowfall, and whether it is verified. Listings cannot include a street address. "Near you" suggestions use the towns organizations enter, not your device's location.
- Colleague invites: if you invite a colleague, we store the email address you enter so the invite can match them when they sign in. Snowfall App does not email them.
- Team invite links: your organization's owner can create an invite link. A link works for 7 days or 10 uses, whichever comes first, and the owner can turn it off sooner. If you use one, we record your name, the organization you asked to join, that you confirmed you are 18 or older, the Terms version you accepted, and whether the owner approved or declined you. The owner sees your name, not your email address, and decides whether you get a seat.
- Messages and requests: connection requests (with any note), conversations between organizations, road issues you report to Snowfall, and messages you send to Snowfall on the Snowfall direct line.
- Account ID and seat status: an account number, whether your seat is requested, approved, or removed (by Snowfall, or by your organization's owner if you joined with an invite), and whether a Snowfall executive has marked your organization's listing verified. If your organization's owner asks Snowfall to verify the organization, Snowfall receives a verification request with the organization's name and town and the owner's name.
- Terms acceptance: the version of the Terms of Use you accepted, that you confirmed you are 18 or older, and when.
- Push notification token: if you turn on message alerts on iPhone, the token Apple gives us so we can send you a notification. A notification names only the organization it is about, such as "New message from [organization]", "[organization] wants to connect", or "[organization] accepted your request". The message text is never in the notification and never appears on your lock screen.
- Reports and moderation records: if you report a message or an organization, the report, the reason, and a copy of the reported content.
- Alerts to Snowfall: when someone files a report or asks Snowfall for a town or partner seat, Snowfall's owner gets a push notification and an email (sent through Resend from no-reply@snowfallcommandcenter.com). A report alert names the organization that filed it, the organization it is about, and the reason picked from a list. A seat alert names the organization entered and its type. These alerts never include the reported content, message text, notes, or the person's name or email address. They go only to Snowfall, never to other users. Snowfall keeps a short log that each alert was sent so it is not sent twice.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health data, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. The app has no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting tools, and no AI features.
On your iPhone only
- Face ID or Touch ID lock (optional): iOS checks your face or fingerprint on your device. Snowfall never receives Face ID or Touch ID data. We only store, on your phone, whether the lock is on.
- Reminders (optional): the morning road check and weekly storm check are scheduled on your phone. Nothing is sent to us.
- App icon badge: the count of unread conversations and connection requests.
- Your profile is also cached on your phone so the app opens quickly.
Storm screen
The Storm screen shows National Weather Service alerts and forecasts for one town: your organization's listed town, or a town you pick from the list. A town you pick is saved only on your device. To get the weather, the app sends the town name to Snowfall's server, which asks the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) for that town's alerts and forecast using the town's published center point. The National Weather Service does not receive your name, your account, or your device's location. The app does not use your device's location for weather or anything else.
How conversations stay private
- A conversation between two organizations can be seen only by the members of those two organizations.
- Snowfall executives can mark an organization's listing as verified. "Verified" means only that Snowfall checked the organization's identity. It does not mean Snowfall checked a license, insurance, or the quality of its work.
- Snowfall executives cannot read conversations between organizations in the app or its admin tools. The only exception is a report: when someone reports a message, request, or organization, Snowfall receives a copy of the reported content so it can review it. Nathaniel Dale reviews every report within 24 hours, including during storms.
- Snowfall sees a conversation's content only if someone reports it (the report includes the reported content), if the law requires it, or when our technical staff must restore or secure the service. In that case we look only at what is needed.
- Road issues and messages you send on the Snowfall direct line go to Snowfall, and Snowfall reads them.
- Messages with a town or other public body may be public records under state public-records laws (for example, NH RSA 91-A or the Massachusetts Public Records Law). The town, not Snowfall, decides what it must release.
How we use information
To sign you in, run your account and your organization's listing, deliver connection requests and messages, send the notifications you turn on, review seat requests and listings, keep the service secure, act on reports, and answer support requests. We do not use your information for advertising or sell it.
Who we share it with
- Other users, as you choose: your organization's listing and profile are shown in the directory, and may be suggested to organizations that cover the same towns, unless you hide it. Connection requests and conversations are shared only with the other organization. Signed-out visitors may see how many organizations of each type are listed, never names.
- Service providers who run the app for us: Netlify (hosting), Supabase (database and sign-in, US East), Resend (sign-in code emails and Snowfall's internal alert emails), and Apple Push Notification service (notifications). They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- For safety and the law: when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety, or to investigate fraud or abuse.
- If the business changes hands, information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
How long we keep information
- Your account information is kept while your account is open.
- When you delete your account, we remove right away your Snowfall App seat and profile, your organization membership, your road issues and Snowfall direct-line threads, pending invites to your email, your team join requests, your read markers and alert markers, your notification tokens, and any verification request you filed.
- Messages you sent in a conversation between organizations stay in that conversation for the other members, shown as from your organization, without your name. If you are the last member of your organization, deleting your account deletes the organization's listing, its connections, and its conversations, including the copy the other organization sees.
- Kept after deletion: a record that Snowfall removed an account's access, if it did (so a removed account cannot rejoin); reports and moderation records, including the log of alerts sent to Snowfall, for up to 2 years; and records we must keep by law.
- Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, device and browser type, and time) for a limited period.
- When you delete your account, we remove your data from our live systems right away. Our hosting provider may keep copies in its own system backups for a limited time until they are overwritten; we do not restore deleted data from those backups except where required by law.
- Snowfall App, Snowfall Biz, and Snowfall Winter Comms use one Snowfall sign-in. If you don't use Snowfall Biz or Snowfall Winter Comms, deleting your Snowfall App account also closes the sign-in. If you do, the sign-in stays so those apps keep working. Email us if you want the sign-in closed too.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app: Account → Delete my account (confirm). You can also email us.
- Hide your organization from the directory: Connect → My organization → Show in the directory (off).
- Notifications, reminders, and Face ID: turn them off in Account → App settings, or in iPhone Settings.
- Access or correct your information: edit it in Account → Edit my details, or email us.
- Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under state law (for example, to know, delete, or correct personal information). Email us. We will not discriminate against you for using these rights.
Age
Snowfall App is for people 18 and older who use it for work. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will close it and delete their information.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access is limited by account and organization, and Snowfall executive access requires a second authentication factor. No system is perfectly secure.
Not an emergency service
Snowfall App is not a 911 service and does not dispatch. Call 911 first for emergencies.
Changes
We will post changes here and update the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
